Taking it back to (approaching) Zero
Like most great epiphanies, this one came to me in the shower. I was thinking to myself about everything I have to do from my To Do list and then my mind wandered over the concept of To Do lists and what mine looks like. It occurred to me that I have structured most of my existence around a series of To Do lists that are always adding items and I am in the never ending process of removing items from those lists aiming for the mythical 0% left to do. Hypothetically when I hit zero then my life will be complete.
Aberrant: nWod Notes
In taking a look at converting Aberrant to the 'Storytelling' rules, the first thing I wanted to do is to do is make a listing of the 'core' parts of of the nWoD system and write out some notes as to where the Aberrant bits would fit in there. Not sure I'll ever run this game, but White Wolf has one of the easier character creation systems so a 'write up yourself as a character/here lets add some powers' might make for a fun time at a Con game. A Taste of Power
It isn't a new idea but it isn't one that sees a whole lot of use these days either. The thought that the consumption of some special food can grant power to those who consume it goes back at least as far as greek mythology. The origins of the word 'ambrosia' may go back further and have links to mead and/or other honey bee related products.
Consensus reality
I've always been something of a fan of Consensus reality... the idea that certain things exist because we agree that they do. It fascinates me because there are some things that exist even without our belief in them.. a good portion of math, physics, and biology for instance. But then there are some portions of Quantum Physics that seem to exist because there are holes in our attempt to model them, yet we treat those gaps as if they were reality.
Closer to home and every day life, things like Language, Color, and Emotion all have meaning because we give it to them and agree to that shared definition.
On the Subject of RPGs (Part 1 of ?)
One of the fun things about the release of an RPG is a chance to look through the new rules and see what the latest 'state of the art' to this system is. The thing about role playing is that you don't really NEED rules to do it. Many of us have been doing it since we're kids ("I get to play He-Man this time!") and a number of us have rediscovered it in our adulthood ("Tonight I'll be the naughty school girl.")
